just got my bike fixed! had to have the rear derailleur replaced and went to VB cycle on victoria. ended up with a shimano alivio to replace the shimano deore lx that I had. no idea how different they are though. I wish I knew more about bike parts…

It’s definitely a step (or two) down, but you’ll probably be plenty happy with it. Deore LX used to be kinda the bottom of the good stuff while Alivio was the top of the entry-level stuff.
Remember that bike tour of Montreal island we once got caught in for a few kms near Vieux-Port? Have you ever done the full tour?
